Medfield Select Board Posts 40-Article Town Meeting Warrant, Splits on Energy Code

MEDFIELD — April 7, 2026 — Medfield Select Board posts 40-article Annual Town Meeting warrant and approves $120,000 downtown facade grant program. Meeting Tuesday, Chair Pete Peterson, Member Gus Murphy, and Member Eileen Kinsella endorsed nearly all warrant articles, recommending dismissal only of the Specialized Stretch Energy Code — on a two-to-one split, with Murphy and Kinsella opposed and Peterson in favor — and a citizen's petition. The board approved a coordinated budget commitment letter with the School Committee and Warrant Committee for the proposed operating budget override, but made approval contingent on the School Committee signing on as well, with Murphy saying "if the school committee isn't prepared to commit to this thing, I have a different position." The board also accepted an $18,700 firefighter safety equipment grant for gas detection meters, signed contracts totaling more than $183,000 for Medfield Outreach renovations and DPW garage flooring, and unanimously approved the framework for a reimbursement-based facade improvement grant awarding up to $120,000 to downtown businesses ahead of the town's 375th anniversary parade in October.
