Medfield board OKs $460,000 water main contract, flags PFAS threat to Well 6. The Select Board unanimously signed an engineering deal with Apex Companies to design replacements for aging cast-iron mains, part of a capital plan that anticipates roughly $24 million in water and sewer borrowing by fiscal 2029. Board of Water and Sewerage Chair Bill Harvey said wells 1 and 2 exceed new federal PFOA and PFOS limits and may be retired by 2029, while the board will seek to renegotiate its state lease near Well 6 to add backup capacity.
Resident Bill Massaro, who tracks the state's PFAS probe at the former Medfield State Hospital, said "we've been fighting this with DCAMM now for ten years." The board also authorized a fourth amendment to Trinity Financial's redevelopment deal, citing a new $2.5 million state grant, and signed retiree health renewal rates of 3.9 percent, far below an expected 10 percent, saving about $85,000.
