Select Board · Meeting of January 6, 2026

Medfield's Select Board voted to add a tax override placeholder to the 2026 Town Meeting warrant as officials outlined roughly $300,000 in budget cuts needed to meet a 1.29 percent spending cap. Town Administrator Christine said health insurance rose 17 percent last year and is projected to climb 15 percent more, adding about $1 million to costs; proposed cuts include eliminating crossing guards, an HR generalist position, and dog waste pickup at the Medfield State Hospital site. Separately, Chair Osler Peterson announced the state confirmed a $4.5 million infrastructure grant for the state hospital redevelopment, far above the roughly $1 million previously expected, and the board accepted a $104,000 bid from Weston and Sampson for owner's representative services on the project's first construction phase.

"This is not a matter of having the budget just kind of explode," Peterson said.
