Select Board approves FY27 budget cuts, appoints committee member, holds infrastructure contracts pending review

MEDFIELD — Select Board approves FY27 budget cuts and governance items. Town Administrator Kristine Trierweiler presented $341,479 in proposed reductions including elimination of the HR Generalist position, reduced administrative staffing in Land Use, elimination of library Sunday hours and Council on Aging Saturday hours, and cuts to Department of Public Works maintenance and materials budgets. The Board unanimously appointed Xia Chafel to the Community Choice Aggregation Committee, confirmed a $940 Conservation Commission payment to Comprehensive Environmental Inc., and signed a $7,000 contract with MHP for technical assistance on the Rosebay project.

Fire Chief William DeKing reported 1,688 calls in 2025 and projected call volume exceeding 2,000 by 2030 if current trends continue, with the department's SAFER grant expiring November 2027.
