Medfield School Committee Unanimously Restores Kindergarten Tuition, Raises Preschool Fees for FY27
MEDFIELD — February 5, 2026 — Medfield School Committee reverses free-kindergarten plan and raises preschool tuition for FY27. The committee voted unanimously 3-0 at its February 5 meeting to revert full-day kindergarten tuition from a planned $2,750 to $3,500 and raise four-day preschool tuition from $7,230 to $9,000, generating an estimated $174,570 in additional annual revenue based on 195 kindergarten and 16 preschool paying students. Superintendent Neil Marston said the increases will allow kindergarten teacher positions to move out of the operating budget and into a revolving account, effectively preserving roughly two teaching positions. Member Will Horn called the vote necessary but uncomfortable: "This stinks that we have to do this — but I think we need to save all the teachers." The committee also approved sending a prioritized cuts list totaling just over $1.43 million to the Medfield Warrant Committee, which is expected to make its override recommendation at meetings in late March and early April ahead of a May 4 Town Meeting vote.
