Medfield Select Board reviews $341,479 in proposed FY27 budget cuts to meet a 1.3 percent spending cap. Town Administrator Christine told the board a level-service budget actually needs a 3.6 percent increase, forcing cuts to the HR generalist position, library Sunday hours, Council on Aging Saturday hours, weekend animal control coverage ($24,037) and dog waste pickup at the Medfield State Hospital property ($20,000). Fire Chief Bill DeKing reported 1,688 calls in 2025, up an average of 6.6 percent annually, and said updating ambulance billing rates to the regional average could have brought in $187,000 more this year.
Chair Osler Peterson said, "If we've left $187,000 on the table, it would make a big difference." The board deferred prioritizing which cuts to restore under a possible override until its next meeting, ahead of the May 4 Annual Town Meeting.
