MEDFIELD — Warrant Committee unanimously dismisses citizen petition on community center study. Chair Stephen Callahan cited procedural violations, noting the petition bypassed the Permanent Planning and Building Committee's formal governance process and Parks and Recreation has not submitted a formal request for site feasibility work. The Committee received survey results showing 700 responses with strong demand for indoor gymnasiums and turf space; approximately 25 percent favored the PFAFF site and more than 60 percent supported public funding.
Parks and Recreation Director Lauren Beitelspacher presented a preliminary proposal for a $1.57 million prefabricated facility at Hinkley, contingent on following Town capital approval processes. The Committee also heard presentation on an opt-in stretch energy code that could bring up to $1.15 million in grant funding; Callahan expressed concern about adopting state mandates without full board input. All members except Emily McCabe expressed support for an override compromise maintaining a 75/25 proportional split between school and town budgets with an override amount under $2 million.
