Medfield School Committee debates deep budget cuts tied to town-school spending formula. The committee unanimously approved a K–5 literacy warrant article funded through free cash, but spent nearly three hours examining a "compromise scenario" that cuts $608,000 from the school budget through 5 teaching positions, 1.5 administrative assistants, and half a custodian role. Warrant Committee members Steve Callahan and Edward Vozella defended the compromise as necessary to preserve the town's 75/25 spending split and avoid consecutive override votes; however, Committee members Leo Brehm and Sophia Viglas raised concerns about whether the cuts were equitably distributed and whether budgeting by formula rather than actual need serves the community well.
The committee also heard a separate proposal for bus fees ranging from $180 to $300 annually per student, deferred to April pending community input.
