School Committee hears public input on proposed Bookworms literacy program

MEDFIELD — School Committee fields questions on Bookworms curriculum adoption. Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Marsden told resident Catherine Herbutzer that students are performing at grade level and the district is adopting the program proactively before a state mandate, following a successful pilot with overwhelming teacher and student support.
The district has applied for a state grant to offset approximately $91,000 of the cost. Dr. Marsden also addressed concerns about the district's use of outside legal counsel, noting FY25 legal expenses totaled approximately $18,000, or 0.04 percent of the overall budget, a practice consistent with other school districts.
