MEDFIELD — School Committee backs 5.02% level-service budget over superintendent's 3.9% proposal. Members Michelle Kirkby, Leo Brehm, and Will Horne voted yes; Diana Frascella voted no on the 4-1 amendment. Teachers and residents, citing enrollment growth and unmet academic support needs, urged the board to pursue a budget override to fully fund the $1.7 million increase and preserve approximately 14 positions that would otherwise be cut.
Dr. Jeffrey Marsden's presentation noted Medfield's per-pupil spending of $20,887 remains below the state average of $23,000, and projected a $940,000 gap between the 3.9% proposal and the Warrant Committee's 1.8% Proposition 2½ guidance.
