Medfield School Committee approves 3.64 percent FY27 operating budget increase. Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Marsden presented $609,000 in combined reductions, including elimination of elementary Mandarin instruction, removal of a 0.5 central office position, and adjustments in elementary and high school staffing.
The Committee voted unanimously on the 3.64 percent figure to establish a unified town recommendation. Dr. Marsden warned that if the May 4 override vote fails, the district would immediately pivot to approximately a 1.8 to 1.9 percent increase aligned with Proposition 2½, requiring roughly $1.3 million in additional cuts.
The Committee also unanimously approved capital warrant articles totaling $300,000 for technology and facility improvements, authorized the Girl Scouts to install a storage shed on school property, and appointed Sophia Viglas and Michael McCabe to the Mobile Phone/Social Media Task Force and Rosalie Weiss to the School Building Committee.
